The Pitter-Patter of Many Feet...
For the past twenty years, our goal has been to raise and promote the breeding of rare breeds within the framework of a small family farm. Given the limitations of climate and diet, we have chosen breeds that are hardy and low maintenance for our Northwest lifestyle. We have raised and bred Jacob sheep for twenty years, and we are now in the process of adding Herdwicks to our flock. We raise a wide variety of heritage chickens and turkeys, although Bourbon Red turkeys are our favorite. We raise and breed Icelandic Sheepdogs to help us on our farm and keep us company in our home. It is not uncommon in the spring to find chicks, turkeys, lambs and a half dozen dogs in the family room with us. We also allow pigs, cows, cats and small children to.... runamuck on our farm.
In 1996, forty children joined our family when Carden Country School moved to the property. In the spring, the children get to experience leaping lambs, who frolic back and forth in the pasture during morning recess, along side four-square and jump rope.
In 2007, Karen Pryor opened an animal training school, and it didn't take us long to take advantage of the opportunity that she was providing. After 6 months of focused study, Scotti passed her exams and now is a certified training partner. Scotti can now be found around the farm and at the school training the Icelandic Sheepdogs, sheep, cows and chickens. Whyrunamuck plans to open with training classes in the fall of 2011, focusing on puppy socialization and canine development.
